Happy Birthday Insight Food Group. The first year of operation has been very humbling and inspiring. I started with a vision and worked on its execution. The business has grown and evolved and it’s not what I had planned for. That is also the beauty of being an entrepreneur—as my presence in the marketplace expands, I’ve been able to make informed decisions and shifted in a different direction based on my learnings and experiences. I am so grateful for the ability to pivot.

A lot has happened in IFG’s first year of business. We’ve gotten some coverage in trade publications like American Exporters and on South Florida Business RadioX. I’ve become involved with CAMACOL – The Latin American Chamber of Commerce – and led workshops in both Spanish and English on what you need to know to enter the U.S. market. I had the opportunity to be a presenter at the World Trade, Taste and Travel Expo and a roundtable facilitator at the Americas Food and Beverage Show in conjunction with CAMACOL’s 44th Hemispheric Congress. I began outreach to food and beverage startups at some local farmers’ markets and hired my first intern over the summer.

To my family, friends, colleagues - thank you! I couldn’t have pulled it off without your guidance and unwavering support. I’m excited to see what else is in store for Insight Food Group!

While recently walking through a store, I overheard a shopper telling her friend about how much she liked a particular item on the shelf. The friend then suggested she should post about the item on social media and the shopper’s reply was: “No way, I don’t want them to run out. I mean look at the shelves and holes of missing product.” It’s there that I had an ‘AHA’ moment. She did not want to recommend this particular item because she feared it would be sold out when it was time to buy more of the item she liked so much.

There is research that shows the power of reviews and influencing consumer behavior. But if the reviews are not made for fear of not having the products they like, then what? Those companies and items that are true winners will not get the respect they deserve from the consumer for fear that it won’t be there when they go shop.

The supply chain issues that consumers are experiencing post pandemic are having a much bigger impact on brands than their companies would like to admit. Has this happened to you? I’d love to hear from you if it has.
